Man Finds Abandoned Dog in Mysterious Bag at Work

When Lockard arrived at the Oklahoma Humane Society adoption center for work, he noticed an unusual sight—a mysterious bag hanging from the door handle. Curious, he approached and was heartbroken to discover a small brown dog inside.

“This wasn’t the first time I’ve arrived at the adoption center to find animals waiting there, so I can’t say I was super surprised,”. Despite the sad circumstances, he knew exactly what to do. Carefully, he brought the nervous pup inside, giving her food, water, and a safe place to rest.

“She was very nervous, but she seemed physically healthy and sweet-natured,” Lockard said.

Inside the dog’s carrier, he discovered a wet piece of paper. Written on it were the words: “Her name is Maris, find her a good home.” Though the note offered a glimpse into her past, it left many questions unanswered.

The Oklahoma Humane Society later shared Maris’s story on Facebook—not to shame the person who abandoned her, but to highlight the larger issue of homeless animals and the need for foster families.

“Little Maris is currently looking for a foster family of her own, and later a permanent family,” said Roshelle Anderson, the Humane Society’s marketing manager.

Though her journey began with heartbreak, Maris’s story is one of hope. With any luck, she’ll soon find a loving family and the forever home she deserves.
